The Tim Smalley Project started in 1996. We started a job in a cul-de-sac and ended up doing five other jobs. The last roof we were on was Tim's best friend. I learned from him that Tim had been diagnosed with Lou Gerhig's disease. I was not sure why Tim hadn't called me to do his roof, but it was obvious after talking to a few more neighbors. I met Tim only once and he left such a positive and wonderful
impression on me that doing something great for him was important. I got all of the neighbors together with all of our workers, the dumpster company donated a dumpster and the shingle company discounted the material. We did his roof on a Saturday afternoon, Tim cooked burgers and we all worked on his roof. Tim is no longer with us but that day was an unbelievable up-lift to me. We now do the donation of a construction project each year. |
